Linore was adopted by the Enclave, a powerful para-military magic users group after an 'incident' when she was very young. She has proven to have amazing magical potential, which has allowed her to climb through the Enclave's ranks at an incredible rate. For as awesome as her rise in the organization has been, however, they have been very secretive whenever she's tried to inquire as to her own past.
Linore is good almost to the point of being blind that not all situations are either black or white. Everything she does she does passionately. Unfortunately, that often leads to her being at odds with others around her; she sees something that needs doing and does it. She has very little time for debate. Only her sister, Hessa, seems able to shake her confidence and slow her haste.
Linore has extensive training in Light magic, as well as a strong background in Neutral. She is unique in that she is attuned to both Light and Dark magic, however the Enclave has been careful to shield her from her Dark potential. Aside from an incident when she was very young which led to her being taken in by the Enclave, she is currently unaware of her potential.
As a member of the Enclave, she is provided with a standard issue Bracer. It's a magical focus that allows her to enhance either her Light Blade or Shield. Once she accesses her Dark abilities, she can use it for her Dark Blade or Dark Shield. Her Light-Dark Blade and Shield are (currently) only producable with the bracer.
Linore is not perfectly trained in Neutral magic, as she is not attuned to it, but she has spent time working toward mastery of a couple of abilities.
Linore cannot access these abilities yet, but once she starts journeying down this path, these will be the powers she is most proficient with.
There are a couple of special magical abilities Linore possesses that don't fall under one school.

Hessa is, technically, Linore's half sister. She was initially raised by her father, until he died shortly after Linore was born. Linore has never known a time when Hessa wasn't in her life, to one extent or another. There mother was killed in a car accident shortly after Linore's 'incident', and both girls were put into the foster system, though the Enclave took her in for training.
Hessa could have easily been adopted, but she refused to be adopted by any family unwilling to also take Linore. Most families weren't interested in a potentially troubled child studying with the Enclave, and the Enclave wasn't actually interested in Linore being adopted. They had offered to foster Linore at one of their group homes, but she'd refused, since they wouldn't also take Hessa.
When Hessa turned fifteen she began researching emancipation; while rare, it was technically possible for a sixteen year old to be declared emancipated by a court, which would mean Hessa could leave the foster system, and become Linore's legal guardian. She spent the next year reseaching, learning, and building her case. After turning sixteen (and several touch and go court hearings), she managed it. She got a crappy call center job and found a cheap, dirty apartment that she and Linore shared. The two have lived together ever since, despite both of them being independant adults in every other regard.
Linore loves Hessa more than any other person in her life. She see Hessa as having saved her; the years of training in the Enclave, the loss of their mother, the horrible experiences in the Foster system; all of those were things that felt like they would pull her under into an indescribable darkness. And Hessa was always there, like a shining ray of light, preventing her from drowning.
Linore's relationship with Simon is complicated. When he showed up out of the blue and offered to help (see The Ignite Incident) she was wary. But he proved himself to be a man of his word, and capable of a selflessness his manerisms wouldn't have lead you to assume. It even got to the point where, for the first time, basically ever, Linore started questioning if she was interested in Simon as more than a friend. The two spent some time alone together, with him playing confidant to her as she talked about her childhood, something she'd never done, even with Hessa.
But then came the day she picked Hessa up from the Locke Estate and learned Simon was a Dark Magic user. She felt betrayed; here was a man she'd felt drawn to, been vulnerable around, and yet he was the very thing she'd been raised to hate. It was a violation so deep she had nightmares about it for weeks afterwards.
The biggest problem for her is that her feelings towards him haven't just gone away. So now she's stuck in this weird place where she wants to return to where they were before, meanwhile he makes her skin crawl and she wants to destroy him. She hasn't decided which side she's going to listen to, yet.
Miranda was there the day she picked Hessa up from the Locke Estate. At the time she didn't know who Miranda was, or her history. Afterwards, when she read up on just the kind of life she'd had with Hekate as her mother, as well as everything she'd done since getting out from under her thumb, Linore felt a sort of kinship with the witch. But, the fact that she was attuned to Dark Magic still meant she was the enemy, despite her seeminly having sworn off actively practicing it.
What really threw Linore for a loop was getting assigned to work the same case as Miranda. She didn't know Miranda was a cop, and a well decorated one with a spotless record. That made things complicated for her in a little miniature way as with Simon. She wants to be Miranda's friend and respect her, but her very nature is one Linore believes she has a duty to destroy.
For now, at least, Linore's compromised as being standoffish, but working with Mir. She still sometimes forgets she's trying not to get close to the witch and they end up having fun together.
