Hessa is one of the up and comming talents in Horizon City. Her singing abilities are unparalleled, and she's proven herself quite the compitent business owner as the proprietress of the Ignite Bar & Lounge. As Linore's sister, she's gotten a little bit of attention from people assuming that she's as powerful as her younger sister, but Hessa just smiles kindly and explains it's all she can do to make a little flame dance across her fingers.
Hessa is a bubbly, happy person, despite how hard her life has been. Long ago, when her father died, she decided she had the choice to either give into the sadness, or embrace happiness. Ever since, she's well known for being the embodiment of a ray of sunshine, in any situation. Hessa also has another reputation, for being a bit of a thrill seeker, looking for new experinces. She loves freely and is very open-minded with regards to sexual encounters. While this has gotten her into some trouble, she just laughs it off and focuses on the fun she had.
Hessa is barely considered a 'magic user' and often passes for a mundane. Her abilities are so underdeveloped that casual tests won't even register her. However, that belies her actual abilities, since she should have a S
rating; her magical aptitude is secondary to her true abilities. Even she isn't fully aware of them.
Hessa's true power is the ability to manipulate and control other people. She generally does this through dance or song, though those are just the psychological crutches she uses to channel her abilities through. She's always been able to do this, which is why she has a history of getting what she wants; people literally struggle to say no to her. But she's a kind and caring enough person that just naturally she never used these abilities to become a tyrant, even among her family and friends.
Linore and Hessare are, technically half sisters. They each have different fathers but the same mother. Hessa as fond, if bittersweet memories of her father. She spent the first five years of her life living in Dubai with her father. She still loves that city and that part of the world, though she's only been able to return once since her father died.
After their mother died, Hessa focused on protecting and caring for Linore as much as she could. This meant part of her feels some resentment; Linore's always been someone she has to protect and care for, and se believes she alwasy will. But she loves her sister fiercly, and she embraces that resentment, works through it on her own, and keeps it out of her interactions with Linore.
Once Hessa found out that she could become emancipated at 16, she devoted every waking moment to doing just that. She somehow managed it, and also got appointed Linore's guardian, despite objections from the Enclave. After that, she devoted the next six years to making sure she and Linore had a roof over their heads and food on the table. It was only once Linore became a Guardian at 18 and making an income from the Enclave that Hessa could focus on what she wanted to do.
Now that they are both doing what they love, Hessa has felt closer to her sister. She honestly believes their hard times are behind them, and wants nothing more than to always have Linore by her side.
Hessa met Simon at one of her lowest points in the last ten years. (See The Ignite Incident.) Since his help, he's worked for her as her accountant and sounding board. Immediately after the incident she found him intriguing enough to proposition him. He refused, making him one of the few to ever do so. She persued him for the next few weeks, and he refused every time. Finally he simply said to her, "Hessa, you couldn't be futher from someone I'm interested if you tried. You are the diametric opposite of who I'm interested in." He'd been making a habit of pointing out how he thought of the sisters as opposites from each other, so his message was painfully obvious. He was interested in Linore, not her. Well, she was very supportive of that idea!
Hessa always knew Simon was a Dark Magic user, and frankly, exactly what kind of person he was. His morality, in her estimate, was that he would fight for and defend friends and family with everything he had. Nothing was off limits. To some, worlds like 'murderer' or 'monster' came to mind for someone whose done what she knows he has. Not for her. She sees him as a sweet, kind man who loves nearly as deeply as she does. In a way she agreed with Simon; they were too similiar to ever work as an item. On the other hand, she felt it was a shame he'd said no; he was one of the rare people she thought could hold her interest long term.
Hessa met Lizbeth Locke by chance at her club as the later was waiting for Simon one evening. She then showed up a week or two later and in one of the most blunt offers Hessa has ever had, informed her that she, Hessa, would be coming home with her, Lizbeth. Intrigued, Hessa decided to see where things went. And the answer was they went to places she'd never imagined. While the Charon sisters might be each other's opposite, Hessa found the Simon siblings were more alike than either of them liked to admit. Where she'd understood Simon's darker side, with Liz she'd found someone perhaps even more fundamentally good than she was.
To Hessa, Liz is the only person she's ever met who's honest about self sacrifice. The woman literally has died for people and has no issues going through the worst pain or torture imaginable for those she loves. Hessa looks up to Liz for for that. Where as Simon (and, if she was being honest, herself) protected others by doing bad things but for good reasons, Liz always does the right thing, regardless of the personal cost.
If there were ever a person Hessa could fall in love with, it would be Lizbeth Locke. As it is, Hessa intends to keep the infamous mercinary in her life for as long as possible, in whatever way she can.
