- Many worlds does not mean sci-fi; there could be magical ways to move between worlds, or multiple dimensions. However, it’s very important to understand the size of what you’re building; if you have to simply decide the races/governments for a single planet, or for several.
- Examples:
- One World: Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, Matter
- Multiple Words: The Magicians, Star Wars, Chronicles of Narnia
- Depending on your world, you might want to split things up by nation, tribe, continent, city, etc. Give some thought to what the major groups are, and what type of government they have.
- Examples:
- Fire Nation & Southern Water Tribe from Avatar
- King’s Landing from Game of Thrones
- Galactic Empire from Star Wars
- Wars and tensions tend to color the average citizen’s view of other groups. Sometimes even hundreds of years later, people still hate all members of a group, or prejudge them.
- In addition to prejudice, wars create legends. Sometimes the same person is hailed as both hero and villain on either side of a conflict.
- Examples
- Galactic Civil War, Star Wars
- Mage War, Mage World series
