Male, member of ‘The Church of Hekate’. Adamant Dark Magic user, originally brought into the church because he was a lobbyist for Dark Magic interests on Capitol Hill. After a few years in the church, though, he became increasingly erratic, and eventually left Capitol Hill. He rededicated himself to his craft, and now heads a sect of the church that is becoming increasingly dangerous.
He eventually has some sort of mental break, and that’s when he focused on Mir as both the problem and solution to getting people to embrace Dark Magic.
Left handed.
He is a registered Dark Magic user with a higher rating than Mir’s, but with a ‘mastery level’ lower than Mir’s. Specifically, he is considered unable to teleport.
The Amherst Medical Conference is currently ongoing at The Meridian hotel. It’s day 2 of the conference, and one of the keynote speakers never showed up; no one was able to find him, or one of the grad students he came with.
That evening, around dinner time, room service is ordered off the Hotel’s internal website. When it’s delivered 45 minutes later, the murder is discovered; it’s the missing grad student and keynote speaker.
Both victims were drugged, kept unconscious. One was cut, and used for her blood, to write a message on the wall.
The various things against the wall were blown to the sides of the room in a single blast of Dark Magic, and the wall was almost sandblasted in a rough texture, all at once. This made the message easier to both write and read, as the blood stuck to the wall easier.
The message reads:
Control, Miranda. That’s the essence of our magick. It’s not about good or evil; those ephemeral ideals will only limit you. Forget them.
This is your first lesson: save her. I’ve left her pristine. Think of her bright future.
Don’t disappoint me.
The room is under the name Miranda Collins, but paid for by Garrett Parker. Investigations shows Garrett Parker was in court in California that afternoon, at a civil hearing for a client. He runs his own, barely afloat firm. Most of his cases are divorces, or other civil cases; and he looks like a former Capitol Hill lawyer who’s fallen on hard times, and is making the most of it.
No one thinks that a washed up lawyer from California was able to teleport to the east coast, kill two people, and teleport away. He doesn’t have an alibi for the approximate time of the murder, other than being in California. He was seen in court a few hours before, and ordered pizza for dinner an hour or so afterwards.
